Dr. Birnur Aral
With over 20 years experience, Dr. Birnur Aral is a distinguished force in the consumer products sector. Her expertise and leadership have been pivotal at Good Housekeeping's Beauty, Health, and Sustainability Lab, where she oversaw hundreds of consumer and clinical studies across beauty product categories, including skin, hair, and oral care. Together with her team of chemists and product analysts, their test-based product reviews have significantly contributed to growing Good Housekeeping's readership to 50+ million.
With a discerning eye for quality and attention to detail she evaluated and approved products for the revered Good Housekeeping Seal, a hallmark of consumer trust, in additional categories including over-the-counter drugs, supplements, water filters, pet care, and insecticides.
Organizing Good Housekeeping's annual Raise the Green Bar Sustainability summits and launching brand's Sustainable Innovation Awards, Dr. Aral has established herself as a central figure in advancing the discussion on sustainability within the industry and the media.
With advanced degrees from Stevens Institute of Technology and Columbia University, she has recently returned to academia as a part-time researcher, furthering her contributions to the field of chemical engineering and sustainability. Notably, her research in the processing and rheology of complex fluids and patented innovations in personal wash while at Unilever showcase the breadth and depth of her expertise.
Beyond her academic and professional achievements, Dr. Aral dedicates her time to shaping the next generation of innovators and influencing industry standards by serving on award committees and mentoring young entrepreneurs and graduate students.
